Personal Branding: A Chemical Assay

You might expect highly technical and scientific presentations at the 42nd Central Regional American Chemical Society (ACS) meeting, but this year will also offer a unique twist on career and professional development for the chemist members.  The meeting will be held at the University Place Conference Center and Hotel on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) from Wednesday, June 8 through Friday, June 10.  Indianapolis area Executive and Professional Coach, Lynn Zettler of LifeAction Coaching, Inc., will be leading a 2 hour workshop designed to maximize and optimize professional images and what is now called ‘your personal brand’.

Lynn combines a high level of fun and participation within the 2-hour workshop to deliver insights into over 15 personal brand elements covering everything from personal power and style to social media and communications.  Having previously conducted workshops for the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), corporate employees of Dow AgroSciences, Eli Lilly, and AIT Laboratories, as well as students of the University of Indianapolis, Lynn plans to further customize the branding elements for chemical professionals to address their unique challenges and needs.

“Scientists are a unique population of professionals,” according to Zettler who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry herself, and acquired over 20 years of experience in various science related roles.  “They tend to be much more focused on their particular company, role and scientific deliverables, with less emphasis on relationships and personal development. Their personal brand will typically have a bigger impact upon their success within their company, but many of the elements of their personal brand may be overlooked. For example, something as simple as what is included in your e-mail signature block can have a significant impact on how you are perceived by others,” Lynn shared.
